rate of growth

growth rate (1) the increase in weight of a fish per year (or season), divided by the initial weight; often measured in terms of K in the von Bertalanffy curve for the mean weight as a function of age (W
Wmax (1-exp (-K age)). Fish grow continuously, although more slowly as they become older. In a managed fishery, fish are allowed to grow to an age which produces good yields, neither too young (still growing rapidly) nor too old (growing slowly))
